Communicating consistently across all channels? Here's how to do it!
Recently, we've written a lot about the value of a good DAM system. After all, your brand is like a child, and your brand content is like his or her building blocks. In order for that child to grow and flourish, you need to nurture it and care for it like it's precious. But no matter how carefully you handle the building blocks of your brand, before you know it someone has had your logo printed in the wrong proportion on a poster, or the wrong font has been used on the clothing of your retail staff. But there's a solution to that, too.
Organizing and structuring
A DAM system gives you a way to organize and structure your content, and ensure that the content you offer is always of the same quality, regardless of format. In this blog, we compared it to a closet, but one that offers a little more structure than just five shelves and a door. But once you have your building blocks in place, the real work actually begins. Because content alone does not make a communication. And that, of course, is your goal: to share your cherished child with the world and show how beautiful it is.
Communicate
The moment you start sharing your brand with the world, you want all your expressions to be consistent, regardless of the channel. If the color scheme or font is changed as part of your corporate identity, you do want that to be reflected in all communications from a certain point forward. Nothing worse than driving down the highway and seeing a towering billboard looming up with your logo misplaced or your payoff printed with a misspelling! Yes, you want to reuse your brand content, but you don't want anyone to be able to make off with it. Only content elements that meet today's standard in terms of content and branding may be reused.
Don't throw your content out in disorder
With a DAM system, you provide overview and structure. But the life of a marketer is about more than laying out your digital building blocks by color and size. Even in execution, you want to be able to guarantee that those perfectly arranged building blocks are going out into the outside world through a corporate identity-constant and compliant process. It's like Lego. Just because you've picked out all your bricks and put them in different bins doesn't guarantee that someone else will handle them as neatly. Before you know it, you find yourself with a multicolored house with an octagonal roof. Very creative, but not necessarily what you want as an organization. With good templates and workflows you prevent someone from throwing everything you have neatly organized and sorted out into the street as a mess.
