Seven trends to consider in the new decade

Just a few more days and 2019 is over. We look back on a great year in which we were able to do great things again for our clients. Now is the time to spend some time with family and friends, but our entire team is already ready to make 2020 at least as successful a year. But before the new year - a new decade even - begins, let's take a look ahead at the trends that await us in marketing automation and digital asset management.

1 The buyer journey is changing

More and more purchases are being made online. Starting next year, nearly 80 percent of purchases will take place without human contact. As an organization, you have to respond to that. Chatbots, for example, are going to play an increasingly important role. But also - positive - online reviews are becoming increasingly important; for one bad review there must be twelve positive ones to make the potential buyer believe in your product again. All this means that an unambiguous experience of your brand, across all channels, is becoming increasingly important.

2 The technology landscape is changing

Digitization keeps evolving. That sounds very nice, but in practice, many organizations are still working with systems that do not communicate with each other, so there is still a lot of duplication. In the coming years, most organizations will reach a point where the number of applications and tools becomes too large. The time will then really come to look for smarter ways to let systems communicate with each other.

3 The way we look at security is changing

About ten years ago, we didn't trust anything that came from outside our own organization, and "cloud" was a dirty word. Gradually we are shifting to a period of "digital trust. But that trust is not unconditional. As a supplier, you have to know how to gain and maintain that trust. Standards such as ISO/IEC 27001 are playing an increasing role in this.

4 Everything is moving to the cloud

It's all cloud what's happening. On the one hand, we see the number of tools and applications increasing; on the other, we push everything into the cloud. But as an organization, do you know what your cloud landscape will look like, and do you have a good strategy for it? Can everyone access the files they need to access? Can no one access files he or she should not have access to? Do you have access to the right speeds? We are embracing the cloud en masse, but think carefully about how that is best workable for your organization.

5 Reachable from any device

Today we expect all systems and tools to be accessible from every possible device: desktop, laptop, tablet and phone. Not everyone has - always - access to a computer, more and more people work only from tablets or phones. Something to take into account as an organization.

6 The role of artificial intelligence is increasing

Autotagging is evolving. Currently, objects in photos and videos are already recognized, but it won't be long before mood elements and emotions, speech and even conditions - think of rights attached to images - can also be recognized and captured.

7 Simple, simple, simple

Software today must be user-friendly and monkey-proof above all else. It doesn't matter what technical ingenuity is behind it, as long as it works simply. In itself, this is strange. If you have to drive a crane, you can't do it without a course, but if you use a digital tool, everyone expects to be able to get started without too much knowledge and skill. Whether that is always realistic remains to be seen, but if you want your system to be a success, you cannot ignore this development.

For now, we wish everyone very happy holidays. Enjoy each other and take some rest. We hope to see everyone back with renewed energy in 2020.
