Clarification: DAM/PAM versus PIM
What is the difference between DAM/PAM and PIM?
Digital Asset Management (DAM) and Product Asset Management (PAM) are software solutions for managing, organizing and distributing digital and product-related assets, such as (product) images, video footage and files. A Product Information Management (PIM) system, on the other hand, manages all product information. This includes prices, product descriptions, technical specifications, etc. and can be easily integrated with e-commerce platforms and ERP systems.
So whereas DAM and PAM systems focus on managing digital and product-related assets, PIM software acts as a central source for product information. Full integration of DAM and PAM with a PIM system provides a seamless workflow where product information as well as related assets are managed within a single platform. The software also includes methods for collecting, maintaining, processing and distributing this data. However, a PIM system is not capable of managing product images as well.
