DAM a panacea? Not if you don't change the way you work

Obviously, we are big fans of a Digital Asset Management system. But such a DAM system is not a panacea. It's not going to help you move forward if you don't change the way you work. Just as a new house is no guarantee of a tidy house. If you make a mess of it again in no time, the overview will soon be gone.

More with less

The job market is extremely tight and it doesn't look like it will resolve itself anytime soon. If you want to make a career move, this is the right time. It also means things for the continuity of your marketing and communications. The people who once created a directory structure are leaving the organization, and the next one just has to pick it up and figure out the logic of the structure. This increases the popularity of Digital Asset Management and Brand Management solutions. Logical, because that way you can do more with fewer people while at the same time ensuring the continuity of your communications.

Take ownership of your content

However, there is one big misunderstanding. We regularly get the comment: just implement that system and the chaos will resolve itself. Ai. It doesn't work that way. Compare it to chaos in your home. Sure, you can buy a new house, but if you move all the furniture and all the clutter from one house to another, you'll soon be back to square one. No matter how clean your new home is, you need to furnish it neatly and then maintain it. Likewise, you need to take ownership of your content.

We'll do it sometime

Try to find the time to take a pass and think about how you want to organize your content. There's no use stuffing your system and continuing to say: we'll do it some day. There comes a time when it turns against you. Think of computers crashing. If you haven't made a backup for a few weeks - in the most optimistic case - you lose everything in one fell swoop. It does clean up nicely, but whether that was the intention?

Lasting reward

We understand that setting up a DAM system is far from fun. We'd love to help you with it, but then we need your input; after all, you're the expert. And believe us: the rewards will absolutely come. Such a well-organized system is almost as nice as a tidy house. The advantage? It's not a temporary reward. Once you've cleaned up and reorganized, technology helps you keep it tidy. Of course, you can keep sharing all kinds of files via WeTransfer, Dropbox or OneDrive, no DAM system will stop you. But if you change the way you work and keep using your DAM system consistently, you'll continue to enjoy all the benefits.
