Do you go for a do-it-yourself demo or choose a customized demo

Last week Sebastiaan de Ruiter got into a conversation with a potential client. She was looking for a DAM system for her organization and wanted a demo of our system. Preferably without our guidance and attention, but 'just, quickly press some buttons and look around'. In this blog, Sebastiaan explains why he doesn't think that's a good plan. And why his discussion partner actually agreed.

Custom Demo

When you request a demo from us, we tailor it to your organization. We pay attention to the specific needs and challenges of your team and show how our applications and modules fit your company's use cases. We made that decision to be so thorough because we believe that this is the only way you can get a complete and accurate picture of a DAM system.

Just a quick test

Last week I received a request for a demo. I called the lady in question to schedule an appointment, but no, that was not to be. She preferred to quickly test a demo herself and not attend a live demo from us. She had asked for two more parties and based on those three demos she would make a decision. And that, in turn, I thought was a bad plan. If you really want to get serious about a DAM system, you can't make a solid decision based on just a quick, superficial click around. Whether it's our system or a competitor's system, a system never comes into its own in such a quick demo. You see the most obvious functions, and no doubt discover how easy it is to upload and download a file. But those features that are truly advanced and will take your organization a step forward, you won't see 123 in such a do-it-yourself demo.

Do you buy a shovel and start digging, or do you take a smarter approach?

Compare it to building a pool in your yard. Anyone can buy a shovel at the hardware store and start digging a pool. But that requires a lot of time and energy. It is better to rent an excavator, but then someone has to explain to you how such an excavator works, what the six excavation code rules are and what else you have to pay attention to. So it is with working with branded content. You can share your files via Dropbox, OneDrive or WeTransfer. No one needs to explain that to you. But if you're looking for structure and quality, if you want to find what you're looking for, want to be able to share files with proper access rights and value security, overview and good management, it's helpful if someone takes you by the hand.

Easily manage quitclaims and usage rights

In this case it was a healthcare organization, where it is rather important that images of people are handled with precision, for example. These are exactly the kind of things you can't get out of a do-it-yourself demo, and that's where our expertise comes in. We can show how we solved that for organizations like KWF and Soa Aids Nederland and how you can easily manage all the information about usage rights and quitclaims.

Apples with apples

Fortunately, my interlocutor was convinced of the added value of our professional input to such a demonstration. And I'm not saying that because I'm so eager to prove myself right, but because I think a DAM system - any DAM system - deserves that attention. You make quite a nice investment, so invest some time to have a number of parties give a serious demonstration. Only on the basis of a good and complete picture can you really make a decision whether or not a system suits your organization, your needs and your challenges. And if the choice then falls on a different system, I am absolutely fine with that. But then I am sure you have compared apples with apples and made a sound decision that you can stand behind.
